You might get a warning that it can't play menus without Java installed. Mount the disc, File, Open Disc, and Open. You can also click if you want your discs to have menus, just like on a Blu Ray player. If in North America, choose Region A and Save. But anyway, for North America, you need to change ONE VLC preference. If you have never played a BluRay disc with VLC before, AND you live in the North America, upon doing so, you will get a new error. If you see the name of the disc in the window, just click the big blue rectangle that says open. If I do that, I get the exact same error message as you. Don't need to click on open Open Video_TS/BDMV folder.
